Ride the S.L.U.T.

SLUT -- Streetcar's unfortunate acronym seems here to stay
Seattle PI, 9/19/2007

That aside, the story that the neighborhood's streetcar line now under construction was called the South Lake Union Trolley until the powers that be realized the unfortunate acronym -- SLUT -- seems here to stay.

Officially, it's now the South Lake Union Streetcar. But the trolley name already has caught on, and in the old Cascade neighborhood in South Lake Union, they're waiting for the SLUT.

Jerry Johnson, foreground, and Don Clifton model the "Ride the S.L.U.T." T-shirts they created to poke fun at the original acronym of the South Lake Union Streetcar. The shirts are sold at the Kapow! coffee shop in the neighborhood. At the Kapow! Coffee house on Harrison Street, they're selling T-shirts that read "Ride the SLUT." (read)

A Shocking Moment for Society: Tasering at University of Florida
Posted September 18, 2007 | 05:20 PM (EST) Huffington Post
Today's news shows a recognizable shock moment in the annals of a closing society. A very ordinary-looking American student -- Andrew Meyer, 21, at the University of Florida - was tasered by police when he asked a question of Senator John Kerry about the impeachment of President George Bush. His arms were pinned and as he tried to keep speaking he was shocked -- in spite of begging not to be hurt. A stunning piece of footage but unfortunately, historically, a very familiar and even tactical moment. (read)

Wake Up! Fascism is on the rise in America. Oh by the way, Kerry is useless.

(Gainesville) On a college campus in Florida, a student is manhandled for daring to ask tough questions of Senator Kerry. University of Florida police pinned him to the ground, refusing to answer why they felt justified in laying hands on him in the first place. Watch the video. He struggled and tried to move away. He'd didn't throw a punch. He asked to be allowed to hear the answer to his question. He asked to be allowed to walk out of the room. Then out comes the taser.

It's disgusting. And the only thing as appalling as the police is ineffectual, clueless Kerry droning on in the background. Cracking jokes while police quell free speech. Telling everyone to calm down while the cops tackle a man who waited for two hours to ask a question about the suppression of the black vote in 2004.

Whatever scrap of respect I harbored for Kerry evaporated watching this three minute assault. Kerry epitomizes the weak-kneed response of so-called progressives in the face of an escalating police state, the wholesale dismantling of civil liberties, where torture is acceptable, wiretaps routine , the suspension of habeas corpus just the price of doing business in the "war on terror".

Send a check to ACLU.

Call 352-273-3301 and (352) 392-1111 and let the University know they have disgraced their institution.

Invite this young man to speak on campus somewhere. Anywhere. Make the attempt to silence him a megaphone.

Rate this YouTube video as high as possible so more people see what is happening in our country.

I love Tina Fey

30 Rock won an Emmy for best comedy series. If you didn't watch the first season, go buy them on iTunes... they are hilarious. And speaking of Tina, after winning Best Comedy for 30 Rock, she said, “I want to thank the parents, child, spouse and gay partner of every person that works on our show ... and our dozens and dozens of viewers.” She then told the press backstage that she was going to celebrate by overeating.

'nuff said.

What Free Speech? We don't have any.

Student Tasered after asking Kerry questions

A University of Florida student from Weston was stunned with a Taser and taken to jail on Monday after police say he disrupted an event with U.S. Sen John Kerry and refused to leave.

The incident was caught on video, which has since been distributed on the Internet.

Kerry once again, failed to show any real leadership. He's useless. This makes me sick. (read/watch video)

Cockiest Guy Ever? Duh

At the White House, the president has got to be muttering "some friend" when he pores over the new autobio from his old buddy Vicente Fox, Mexico's former leader. That's because Fox raps his border pal as stubborn and "the cockiest guy I have ever met in my life." Revolution of Hope, out next month, is a well-written, well-researched book about Fox's political career and presidency, which coincided with George W. Bush's. (read)

Gore wins another award

Al Gore received a standing ovation as his Current TV channel, which features viewer-created videos, was honored for achievement in interactive television at tonight's EMMY awards.

"We are trying to open up the television medium so that viewers can help to make television, and join the conversation of democracy, and reclaim American democracy by talking about the choices we have to make," said Gore, whose global-warming documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" received an Oscar earlier this year.
