Call to Impeach

I'm beginning to feel like the guy on the bridge in the Edward Munch "Scream" painting.
On August 30th, six cruise missiles armed with nuclear warheads were "mistakenly" carried on a flight from North Dakota to Louisiana. Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell assured us that concerns about the error had escalated to the highest levels. In fact, it was considered "important enough" that the president had been notified. Imagine.
Read this for some terrifying rumination on what might actually have been happening there. Was someone moving nukes for a possible strike against Iran? (READ)

Griffin's 'offensive' Emmy speech to be censored
I love Kathy Griffin... I think she's hilarious...
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Before Kathy Griffin won a creative arts Emmy last weekend for her reality show, "My Life on the D-List," she joked that an award would move her to the C-list.
Kathy Griffin was pleased to win an Emmy, but her speech will likely be trimmed.
She was right: "C" as in censored. The TV academy said her raucous acceptance speech will be edited when the event, which was taped, is shown Saturday on the E! channel. The main prime-time Emmy Awards air the next night on Fox.
"Kathy Griffin's offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night," the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said in a statement Monday.
In her speech, Griffin said that "a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus." (more)

Jean Baudrillard, as any philosophy student will tell you, theorized that, in the postmodern world, "the territory no longer precedes the map." In other words, if you are a member of N.Y.U.'s class of 2011, you probably arrived in New York City with a pre-existing web of soon-to-be college friends from Facebook, the online social-networking site. Parents, non-parents compete for time off
NEW YORK (AP) -- With schools around the country back in session, parents who work at small businesses will be asking for and receiving time off for soccer games and class plays -- possibly leading to some friction because other workers don't have such ironclad reasons for leaving early.
Business owners and human resources executives say companies can avoid such problems with equitable time-off policies -- in other words, by recognizing that all employees regardless of their personal circumstances need a work-life balance. Encouraging an atmosphere of mutuality and goodwill among co-workers can also head off conflicts and resentments when one staffer leaves early. (more)
