Robert Fisk: Even I question the 'truth' about 9/11
Each time I lecture abroad on the Middle East, there is always someone in the audience – just one – whom I call the "raver". Apologies here to all the men and women who come to my talks with bright and pertinent questions – often quite humbling ones for me as a journalist – and which show that they understand the Middle East tragedy a lot better than the journalists who report it. But the "raver" is real. He has turned up in corporeal form in Stockholm and in Oxford, in Sao Paulo and in Yerevan, in Cairo, in Los Angeles and, in female form, in Barcelona. No matter the country, there will always be a "raver". (read more)

To Avoid Divorce, Move to Massachusetts
NY Times, Published: November 14, 2004
BOSTON — If blue states care less about moral values, why are divorce rates so low in the bluest of the blue states? It's a question that intrigues conservatives, as much as it emboldens liberals. (more)

Mike Gravel Writes better than he debates
Posted August 14, 2007 |Huffington Post
During last week's historic gay debate, Hillary Clinton dredged up the old states rights argument when justifying her opposition to gay marriage. Apparently she thinks that the second class citizenship of gays and lesbians is a matter for the states to decide.
By drawing upon the language of states rights, Hillary embraces the tradition of John Calhoun and the defenders of slavery along with Strom Thurmond and the segregationists. Throughout our nation's history, every time national public opinion turns against oppression, opponents of progress use states rights to present themselves as defenders of liberty in the face of federal power. A Little More About Jodie
from After Ellen:
The latest issue of More magazine features a lengthy interview with Jodie Foster, who also graces their cover:
Most of the interview is about Jodie's career and her new movie The Brave One (opening Sept. 14), which I'm definitely planning to see based on the poster alone (and because, well, it's Jodie). But the interviewer does slip in a few personal questions, like these:
Let's talk about your ring.
This one? [Proffers left hand] It's Tiffany, an eternity ring.
You're wearing it on your wedding ring finger.
I am. I've always worn a ring. Even taking photos. Even on magazine covers. I don't take it off.
Don't you think wearing a ring like that raises questions?
Well, but that's my life. ... My life is my life. I'm not going to change my life for anybody. I just don't talk about my dad, my health, who I voted for or what I think of the death penalty because that would be trivializing my life, selling it for a magazine. I don't have any problems with anybody reporting on my life. It's just that I'm not going to bring my family into that. The number-one reason for that is: Why would I invite — encourage — more people to sit outside my door and wait for my children to go to school? I don't have any desire to participate in it.
And this one:
When I interviewed you in 1994, you scoffed at the idea of cosmetic surgery. Now, as the crow's feet start to appear, have you adjusted your stance?
Nah. It's not my thing. I don't have anything against it for other people. Whatever they want to do, I'm fine with it. For me, it's really a self-image thing. Like, I'd rather have somebody go, "Wow, that girl has a big nose" than "Wow, that girl has a bad nose job." I'd rather have a comment about who I am than about something that identifies me as being ashamed of who I am.
Never mind Jodie's "eternity ring" — where do I get her decoder ring? She wears a wedding ring, but she won't acknowledge she's married. Her kids share her partner's last name, but she won't admit she even has a partner. She won't get plastic surgery because she's not ashamed of who she is, but she won't tell anyone who she really is, either. I give up.

Are civil unions a 600-year-old tradition?
A compelling new study from the September issue of the Journal of Modern History reviews historical evidence, including documents and gravesites, suggesting that homosexual civil unions may have existed six centuries ago in France. The article is the latest from the ongoing “Contemporary Issues in Historical Perspective” series, which explores the intersection between historical knowledge and current affairs. (more)

Nurse for a Day
I thought this was kinda cool. Hillary shadows a Nurse for a day. Can you imagine if you're in the hospital and in walks Hillary Clinton? If only dubya would shadow a soldier in Iraq for a day.

Solid Gold Rumors About Karl & His 'Family'Man, I am sick of self-hating gays going after the rest of us. What the hell is that about?
It's (almost) official: Karl Rove is gay. If you believe Jeff Gannon's former employer, Talon News, that is.
DC gossip Wonkette is reporting (and Talon is sort of confirming) that Gannon is planning a 'tell-all' book about Rove which will say that Bush's brain - who orchestrated some of the most anti-gay political strategies in history - liked White House sleepovers . . . with Gannon. Karl, it seems, was a customer of Gannon's, and enjoyed the occassional rendez-vous with the former hooker, "including several overnight stays in the White House Buchanan bedroom." more
For you Jodie Foster Fans
Looks interesting... Jodie's new movie, the Brave One I don't care for the haircut but still looks pretty good. Is it me or is she usually the only major star in her movies anymore? Not that they are needed but it would be cool to have bigger names play her love interest or the cop. I personally think the fact that she's never played an adult lesbian is one of the biggest clues she is one. Although her kids have pretty much outed her already since both her sons have the middle name of her partner, Cydney Bernard.

Reality TV.. love it or hate it
Reality TV is the worst thing ever, except when it’s the best thing. Here’s my line between the two:
Good Reality TV:
Little People, Big World: Great show on TLC about a married couple of little people and their kids (some little, some not).
My Life on the D List: Kathy Griffin cracks me up
Family Jewels: Who knew Gene Simmons’ kids would be more normal than Ozzy’s? And on A&E no less!
Project Runway: The one that started a lot of Bravo’s lesser copycats. “Make it Work!”
Workout: Main character is a sexy, ripped, lesbian.. nuff said
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: great show.. and like all proper ladies, knew when it was time to leave.
Survivor: Season One
The Amazing Race: I think I could do this one.
BAD Reality TV:
The Girls Next Door: Hugh Hefner’s taste is off. These girls are so lame.
Any Dating Show: Age of Love, or Date some burnt out loser, the bachelor, the bachlorette, Flavor of love, Scott Baio, geez.... a little dignity would be nice.
Any Talent Show: What in the world did American Idol start?
Any Cooking Show: I can’t taste it so why do I care?
Hey Paula: Hey Paula.. um.. you’re boring... and weird.
Survivor: All the rest
The Two Coreys: I watched once... once.
The Surreal Life: is a little bit like a car wreck.. you have to peak.
Any Weight Loss Show. How desperate do you need to be for a job? Oh yeah.. Screech was on there.
